Fire ant venom are comprised by piperidine, pyrrolidine, piperideine, pyrroline, indolizidine and pyrrolizidine alkaloids. These compounds are widely reported in the literature, mainly due to their biological activities such as insecticidal, fungicidal, bactericidal and hemolytic. However, the importance of the absolute configuration to these activities has been underexploited due to the scarcity of pure enantiomers either in nature or in synthetic samples. In this context, this project proposes the use of multi-enzymatic cascade processes involving transaminases and imine reductases for the production of enantiomeric pure piperidine and pyrrolidine alkaloids from their respective diketones. This project will help to stablish future biological activity studies regarding these alkaloids and their derivatives.
