Abstract

Structural biology, a research area focusing the structural characterization of biological macromolecules, has a crucial role in the functional characterization of proteins and nucleic acids. A combination of recombinant DNA, biochemical and biophysical techniques, including specific tools for the determination of 3-dimensional structures provide the basis for the development of studies of the correlation between structure and function. The present project aims the investigation of structure-function relationship of different animal toxins provided and under investigation by our scientific partners, Professor Eliane Candiani Arantes Braga and Professor Suely Vilela, including phospholipases, L-aminoacid oxidases and hialuronidases from different sources. The isolated proteins will be submitted to structural studies by a combination of X-ray diffraction techniques and biophysical techniques such as circular dichroism, thermoflour, and electron paramagnetic resonance (AU)
