Abstract This project refers to the processing and surface treatment of thermoplastic composites for space applications. After the composites processing, the deposition of silicon on its surface by Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition will be conducted. The following step is to perform a plasma treatment on the surface of the deposited silicon. The treatment that will be used is Plasma Immersion Ion Implantation (PIII), which is carried out in subatmospheric pressure, involving high energy and which may create a silicon nitride layer. After this treatment, the characterization of the samples will be done on untreated and treated samples for comparison. During this work, several characterization techniques will be conducted, such as: optical microscopy; scanning electron microscopy; dynamic mechanical analysis, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scratching.
