Abstract

Concerns about mental health has been transformed with the psychiatric reform movement, valuing substitute models of assistance, seeking work care so associated with the reintegration of the patient in society. Examples of such services are the CAPS (psychosocial care center), which has a communal character, to create a network of monitoring the patient. Along with these care transformations, comes the concern for family participation in treatment, since this logic assumes that the patient whenever possible, remain inserted in their local and social and community networks. Consistent with the literature studies that indicate the need for adequate support to the family for mental health care, this research project aims to understand how a CAPS users familiar signify their participation in mental health care, trying to understand what are the roles, according to the family, he must take on his relationship with the patient in the context of treatment; understand what can promote or hinder the relationship of patients in the interaction with family members, according to this view; analyze how family members perceive the relationship with patients; and investigate how the relationship between parents and the mental health service. Thus, individual interviews will be conducted, semi-structured with family members of patients who attend one CAPS a medium-sized city in the state of São Paulo. The interviews will be recorded and transcribed and will be subjected to qualitative analysis procedures, basing on the social constructionism. It is hoped that this study may contribute to a better understanding of the limits and possibilities of participation of families in mental health care, helping him to develop public policies that direction.
