Abstract This project aims to combine four areas: health, feedings, genders, and sexualities, applied to a specific collective of gay individuals who call themselves "bears". This native category primarily covers gay men who have, among other features, overweight and abundant presence of body hair. In Brazil, this collective was born about 1990. The physical characteristics mentioned are an important standard required to belong to this group as well as being a necessary condition for success in homosexuals intercourses. In this sense, the general goal of this study is to analyze the ways that feedings and health combines with sexualities and genders regarding the subjects included in this research. Scrolling the life stories of this collective and its social constructions, we intend to contribute to the visibility of its members, proposing a discussion regarding the relationship between the dimensions mentioned and highlight and how the social aspects often shape the body, which submits to the demands of an specific group to which you want to belong. The study will use a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods will be based mainly on participant and non participant observation techniques, and in two types of interviews: a semi-structured interview, which is directed to a particular theme, and in this project, refers to the relationship between sexualities, genders, feedings and health; and the ethnographic interviews, which comprises the conversations between the researcher and the interviewee, and which purpose is to understand the context and the significant universe of the subjects, as they build their own narratives. We will also use closed evaluation instruments with pre-established questions which will be added to complement the two types of mentioned interviews. As for quantitative methods, it will be measured waist circumference, the subjects will be asked about their body weight and height and food consumption will be estimated using a food frequency questionnaire by food groups. The combination of data obtained by these combined methods are expected to reach the objective of our research. (AU) | |
