Measurement of the impact of the disease in hospitalized patients with coronary artery disease

Abstract

The instrument to measure the impact of the disease in daily life of patients with valvular disease (IDCV) showed good evidences of reliability and convergent validity in patients with coronary artery disease. However, the IDCV did not correlate with the presence or absence of signs and symptoms, systolic function and ejection fraction (variables that measure cardiac performance) in these patients. The aims of this study is to analyze the impact of the disease in patients with coronary artery disease and to verify the association between the IDCV and sociodemographic and clinical variables, cardiac performance (ejection fraction and systolic function), and the severity of atherosclerotic disease (obstruction of both coronary and peripheral arteries). This is a descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach. We will include 138 adult patients with coronary artery disease which fulfill the established criteria. We will collect sociodemographic data (age, gender, place of birth, race, marital status, years of study, occupation and familiar income), clinical data (weight, height, body mass index, heart rate, blood pressure, ankle-brachial index, ejection fraction, systolic function, cardiovascular risk factors, coronary disease and severity of coronary obstruction, and medicines used at home), and the measurement of the impact of the disease. Data will be analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. This project will be appreciated by the Ethics Committee of both School of Nursing, University of Sao Paulo, and the co-participant institution.
