Abstract

In this research project SERS substrates having Au nanospheres immobilized on Polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers will be prepared. The SERS effect (Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering) is the enhancement of the Raman signal of molecular species adsorbed or near the metal surface having nanoscale dimension. PANI is one of the most applied conducting polymers because of its high environmental stability, simple preparation, low cost, and acid/base doping-dedoping chemistry. Some works using Ag and Au nanoparticles immobilized on PANI nanofibers, as SERS substrates, can be found in the literature. Nevertheless in these works there is not a detailed study about the performance, the reproducibility and the recyclability of the substrates. In the beginning the under-graduate student will obtain the literature's results and thus learning the experimental part of the project. After that the student will try to improve the substrate properties. (AU)
