Abstract

This Project aims to elaborate a model about the thermal history and fluid circulation in the Bambuí Group (Cryogenian to Ediacaran-Cambrian), along the external portion of the Brasília Belt. We selected to study the region of the Unaí City (Brazilian State of Minas Gerais), where the Bambuí Group rocks are intensely deformed, although previous studies have reported incipient metamorphism. The thermal history will be evaluated based on petrographic and microsctructural studies, and using geothermometers applicable to low-temperature rocks, such as chlorite-quartz and biotite-muscovite, and the geothermometer based on quartz thermoluminescence. Fluid circulation along deformational structures (faults, folds and fractures) will be studied by means of microthermometric analysis of fluid inclusion assemblages present in hydrothermal veins, which allow characterizing the composition and physical-chemical characteristics of the fluids and their temperature and pressure trapping conditions. Vein samples collected from known structural contexts will allow assessing the relationships between fluid characteristics and the processes of deformation and fluid migration. In addition to the more specific, summarized above objectives, the project can contribute to the scientific knowledge on the deformational and metamorphic evolution of the Bambuí Group and the external portion of the Brasília Belt; and a better evaluation of the petroleum system and exploration targets associated with the Bambuí Group.
