Abstract Pure spinors in ten dimensions have been useful in covariantly quantizing the superstring and have led to more efficient methods for computing multiloop superstring amplitudes. In previous work by the supervisor and by Prof. Martin Cederwall (Goteborg), pure spinors in eleven dimensions have been useful for describing d=11 supergravity which is the low-energy limit of a non-perturbative formulation of superstring theory called M-theory. In this doctoral project, the student will use d=11 pure spinors to simplify the computation of d=11 supergravity amplitudes and will investigate possible applications of d=11 pure spinors to covariant quantization of M-theory.
