Abstract

Throughout the world, institutes for theoretical physics are an important tool for developing high-quality fundamental research. The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in collaboration with the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP), recently created the ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research which will be located in the IFT-UNESP building in the city of Sao Paulo. The new institute will be a Regional Center in theoretical physics for the South American continent and will organize schools and workshops for graduate students and researchers. In addition to the Director, Deputy Director and secretarial staff, the new Center will hire five permanent research professors and will have a large number of postdoctors and visitors. (AU)
