Abstract

This research seeks to identify the barriers to the application of Brazilian laws regulating the accessibility of sidewalks in the urban environment. To identify these barriers it will be study the federal, state and local laws, this last one in order to evaluate the role of municipalities and their structure for supervision and enforcement of city sidewalks, and forms of public awareness. Also will make an identification on the training of professionals in architecture, urbanism and urban engineering, searching for how they are prepared to discuss and resolve the issues of urban accessibility. The methodology will be the implementation of multimethod: Lifting historical data, the linear displacement analysis in cities, photographic records, literature, sample analysis and data mining in the municipality of Bauru, São Paulo. As a result, it can be said that research can add as bibliography on urban accessibility issues, and contribute to the base formulation for public policies to provide better sidewalks, as well as an understanding of the barriers that must be eliminated to ensure accessibility in Brazilian cities.
