Abstract

The aimed of this study is to evaluate the systolic and diastolic function in dogs undergoing continuous infusion of propofol associated or not with remifentanil through echocardiographic indices. Will be used six Beagle dogs, males and females, not castrated, aged 2-4 years old, weighing between eight and 14 kg. The animals (n = 6) will be submitted to two groups: propofol (0.6 mg.kg -1 .min -1) + 0.9% NaCl solution (GP) and proprofol (0.6 mg.kg-1. min-1) + remifentanil (0.3 microg.kg-1.minuto-1) (GPR), respecting a minimum interval of seven days between each anesthetic procedure. The observations of the variables of interest will begin prior to drug bolus administration (MB) and 20, 40 and 60 minutes after the start of continuous infusion of drugs (M20, M40 and M60, respectively). The following variables will be analyzed: heart rate, systolic, mean and diastolic blood pressure, echocardiographic assessment of systolic and diastolic function of the left ventricle. For each group the variables will be analyzed by analysis of variance Two-way ANOVA with repeated measures to compare times and groups, followed by multiple comparison tests. The Dunnett's test is used to compare each moment with the baseline and the paired t-test with Bonferroni correction to compare the groups. Differences are considered significant when P <0.05. If the ANOVA assumptions are not met, the non-parametric Friedman test is used to compare the moments followed by testing multiple comparisons of Dunn and the Wilcoxon test to compare the groups.
