Abstract

The occurrence of macrosegregation in ingot casting can actuate to depletion of the product's final quality. Such formation can be described as an severe variation on macroscopic scale of chemical species that compose the alloy, and the prediction of such occurrences via computational simulations has yet to be improved. Therefore, this research focus on the development of bi-dimensional mathematical model that - through computational simulations - could be applied to study and predict the formation of macrosegregation during the manufacturing process of binary alloys. Once accomplished these goals, this work can establish the framework to new studies that may tackles more advanced problems, e.g., tri-dimensional models or more diverse alloys.
