Abstract

Stizophyllum perforatum is a species of the Bignoniaceae. This family is distributed in the Neotropics, being represented by approximately 82 genus and 827 species, with shrubs, trees and woody vines. Phytochemical studies with several species of Bignoniaceae demonstrate the presence of lignans, flavonoids, iridoids, triterpenes, naphthoquinones, cinnamic and benzoic acids, C-glycosyl xanthones, phenylpropanoids, anthocyanidins, allantoins and alkaloids. In this sense, the phytochemical study Stizophyllum perforatum becomes attractive, since there are no chemical and pharmacological studies on this species. Additionally, the preliminary analysis with the obtained extracts showed antileishmanial activity. Thus, the aim of this research project is to carry out the chemical study of the ethanol extract of the leaves of S. perforatum with potential use as leishmanicide, and also assess the cytotoxic properties, not to mention the contribution to the training of human resources in the region of Franca.
