Leishmanicidal principles of vegetable species from Atlantic Forest: evaluation, isolation and molecular characterization

Abstract

The present work aiming to evaluate the therapeutically potential of medicinal plants extracts from Atlantic forest in the treatment of visceral and tegumentar leishmaniosis. In this way, several crude extracts, fractions, and pure compounds obtained from vegetal species of Atlantic forest against promastigotes and amastigostes forms of Leishmania chagasi e L. amazonensis using in vitro assays, based in ethnopharmacological information. Additionally, the inhibitory capacity of the hydrolytic activity from cysteine-proteases obtained from parasite forms of cellular extracts and their respectively cytoxicity will be evaluated, using in vitro assays. The isolation and molecular characterization of the active compounds will be conducing using several chromatographic and spectrometric steps. This phytochemical analysis will be bioguided using the assays employed to detect the anti-Leishmanial activity. Aiming to evaluate the pharmacophorical groups in the structure of the active compounds, these will be submitted to the several structural modifications. Therefore, the present project will include new compounds containing anti-Leishmanial potential to the therapeutically use of natural products in the development of new compounds to this important parasitosis.
