Abstract

The South American continent is the most biodiverse on Earth, being the stage of complex climatic and geologic processes that molded its organisms in very diverse ways. Phylogeography studies can help us understanding evolutive responses involved in such diversification, information that is extremely important considering the fast environmental changes that characterize the Anthropocene. For such, model organisms that can have their evolutive dynamics analyzed in temporal and spacial gradients. The adaptive radiation of Bromeliaceae was fast and relatively recent (~20 My), and the diversity center of the family being Brazil make the family a good source for models. The most diverse and distributed genus of the family - Tillandsia - presents key adaptations (e.g. trichome nutrition, CAM photosynthesis and diverse reproductive strategies) and therefore can colonize and diversificate in very variable and extreme environments. In this study, we will analyze populations of Tillandsia aeranthos (Lois.)L.B. Smith, a riparian vegetation epiphyte that is abundant in the Plata and Paraná basins areas. Using mostly cross-amplification of microsatellite markers and universal plastid regions sequencing, we aim to evidence and comprehend the microevolutive processes involved in the species history in variable vegetable and topographic profiles (AU)
