Abstract

In this PhD project, we are trying to better explain how the environment of galaxy clusters affect the evolution of member galaxies, by means of hydrodynamic simulations. For this purpose, we have been using the state of the art, open source code RAMSES, originally developed by Romain Teyssier at CEA Saclay, France. In this BEPE internship project, we intend to enhance our current models in collaboration with Prof. Teyssier himself and his group at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. More specifically, we intend to work with zoomed in cosmological simulations of galaxy cluster formation, in which a representative volume of the universe is simulated starting from high redshift and with a higher resolution placed in the region where the galaxy cluster will form. This class of simulation has been actively used in the literature in the last years, as it can be applied to many problems involving structure formation in the universe, while requiring less hypotheses on the structures that are being formed, in comparison to simulations of idealized objects. We note that, to our knowledge, no group in Brazil is currently working with zoomed in cosmological simulations. (AU)
