Abstract

Part of a larger research, this study follows a quasi-experimental model and is ongoing, aims to design, develop and evaluate an intervention program in primary schools aimed at reducing violence and improving school coexistence in two municipal elementary schools in São Paulo. The criteria for choosing the participating institutions were: to have final grades of elementary school (grades 6 to 9); operate in only two periods; own management team; have low turnover of teaching and management teams; have collective working hours with all; not represent extremes; have neither less than 500 nor more than 800 pupils; and adhere voluntarily to the project. After presenting the project to managers of a local network of a city in the interior of education, they selected two institutions that met these criteria, and this research for the project developed into one of the schools. In early 2015 began the implementation of the intervention. This program, lasting 24 months, consists of a diagnosis (pre-test), intervention and evaluation (post-test). The diagnosis was made by assessing school climate for students, teachers and administrators, as well as observation of everyday school and talk with the actors of the educational community. The intervention was made by inserting a course of 90 minutes per week in the timetable of the students so that the living and morals are discussed; the implementation of procedures for conflict mediation; by proposals for youth leadership; the weekly training for school personnel; the fortnightly training only intended for the management and referral teachers (who are responsible for the new discipline) and monitoring of the main procedures in place. With these actions intended to promote the building a cooperative environment in schools, including socio-moral values into the curriculum and create systematic spaces for conflict resolution and reflection values, feelings and attitudes by students and educators. Is scheduled for the month of November 2016, new application of questionnaires to assess school climate for students, teachers and managers (post-test) which will enable a comparative analysis of the results collected before and after program implementation.
