Abstract

The first railways in Brazil emerged in the mid and late nineteenth century. In 1858 came the Railroad Dom Pedro II, in Rio de Janeiro and in 1867, the railroad São Paulo Railway, English capital in São Paulo. With the development of coffee culture were created Companies Railway, including the Sorocabana Railroad (1876). However, with the crisis coffee in the late 1890s some railways were expropriated by the state and late released in 1905. The railroads played an important role in the organization of the territory, contributing to the development of cities in the state of São Paulo. In this sense, they played a key role in the western region of São Paulo, for the implementation of rail network facilitated the flow of coffee production to the ports. Also, the railroads they allowed the movement of people and goods. Thus, the railroads contribute to displacement of goods, persons, favoring the regional dynamics. In the 1990s, with adherence to neoliberal policies, starts, especially from 1995 the process of privatizations the federal railways (RFFSA - Federal Railway S.A, FERRONORTE, North-South and others) and state (FEPASA - Ferrovia Paulista S/A and Ferropar - Ferrovia Paraná S/A), granted to private companies. The Sorocabana Railroad was granted to Latin America Logistics and early2000 and was off the stretch Presidente Prudente - Epitácio. With the resumption of the railway in region would facilitate the flow of regional production, and bring raw material for industries. This research aims to understand the importance of the rail system for integration into Presidente Prudente, especially Ferrovia Sorocabana the stretch Presidente Prudente -Epitácio. (AU)
