Abstract

The birth of a newborn is considered preterm risk for healthy child development, because the implications for they acquire neurological development changes morbidities and learning difficulties are two to three times greater than that of children born at term. Considering the course of child development, in which the trajectory of development may suffer interference by prematurity this study was designed with the goal of comparing the performance of children born with extreme sharp and moderate preterm birth and children born at term, about the development in the areas of language, motor skills, fine motor, social and personal Adaptive visual), ranging in age from zero to 24 months. The study will be conducted in maternity Santa Isabel, which is a public maternity that caters women by the unified health system (SUS) and in speech therapy clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of Bauru, São Paulo University. Will be held the assessment of child development with the implementation of the following instruments: development Screening Test DENVER-II (Frankenburg et. Al., 1992) and the range Early Language Milestone Scale - ELM (Coplan, 1983) in 260 children born preterm and 83 children born at term. The results will be analyzed by means of statistical tests as the variables with statistical significance level of p < 0.05.Keywords: Prematurity. Child Development. Speech therapy. (AU)
