Abstract Brazil and the United States signed a bilateral agreement for sale of fresh beef in July 2016. This agreement establishes rules on how the meat should reach each of the involved countries, including temperature, storage method and other aspects to ensure that the product will not harm consumers or bring unwanted ecological impacts. Fast, efficient and cost effective analysis of contaminants in meat is critical to Brazilian meat exports viability, as well as the product control imported by Brazil. In this context, my training at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) aims to bring to Brazil the state of the art knowledge and experience in contaminants determination in food to be on equal terms prepared to fulfill this commercial agreement. The aim of my training is develop a methodology for determination of residues of 149 organic contaminants (pesticides, veterinary drugs and PCBs) in beef using a new high capacity cleanup automation system (ITSP) with Mini solid phase extraction cartridges (Mini-SPE) coupled with low pressure gas chromatography (LPGC-MS/MS) and ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (UHUHPLC-MS/MS) tandem mass spectrometers. The products will be extracted from the meat using the modified QuEChERS method and the validated method will be applied in meat samples from Brazil and USA. This training will not benefit only me and the Pesticide Residue Laboratory at Biological Institute (LRP-IB), but also the whole Brazilian scientific community, because I intend to disseminate the acquired knowledge through publications in peer-reviewed manuscripts and training and it will update the contaminants residues determination in meat in Brazil, mainly for export, bringing foreign exchange to our country.
