Abstract

This project aims to analyze the effects of thermal aging on the roughness and color of glass ionomer cements. This study will test two variation factors: type of glass ionomer cement (conventional and resin modified) and aging protocol (with and without thermal cycling), with a total of 4 groups (n = 10). It is emphasized that the roughness and color tests will be performed on the same specimens. Forty disks of different glass ionomer cements (20 of conventional GIC and 20 of resin modified GIC) will be build up for roughness and color tests and the results of which of them will be recorded before and after thermal cycling. The color stability test, before and after aging by thermal cycling, will be performed with two different pectrophotometers (VITA Easy shade Advance and Konica Minolta CE 3700A). The same twenty discs will be evaluated for surface roughness by optical profilometer (Proscan 2100, Scantron, Venture Way, Tauton, UK), also before and after aging by thermal cycling. The data from each trial will be statistically analyzed, accepting a 5% level of significance. (AU)
