Abstract

Aerobic and anaerobic metabolism as well as muscular power are important parameters on basketball performance, since the dynamic characteristics of the game. The lactate minimum test (LMT) was recently adapted for basketball athletes, using the Anaerobic Sprint (RAST) running test to induce hyperlactatemia at the first phase of the LMT. Plyometric exercises, which facilitate muscle recruitment in a shorter time, also can help athletes to developed high mechanical power and it is close to the player movements during the game, with or without ball. Therefore, the aim of the present proposal is to verify the aerobic and anaerobic conditioning and pre-activation influences on the technical skills and performance in specific basketball test. For this, 12 basketball players will be evaluated by four test sessions. At the first, in the laboratory, an anamnesis will be performed, asking for health and training schedules. After this in the same visit, the athletes will be submitted to the plyometry exercises aimed at pre-activating muscle to take a time course by the effects on the jumping performance. The athletes also will make a 30-s all out running test on the non-motorized treadmill. The next three sessions, the tests in basketball court will include: I) accomplishment of the lactate minimum test and evaluation of skills techniques in a stopped shots to the basket; II) Fatigue induction and recording of performances of moving shots to the basket, added to a fifteen meters maximal tethered running to the mechanical power determination; III) Same tests of the previous session, but with plyometric muscle pre-activation or placebo conditions. In this way it will be possible to investigate the influences of different power indices, aerobic capacity and plyometry on the basket shot performances in this specific sport. (AU)
