Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the hyperphagia and its relation with the bone metabolism and body composition of ovariectomized rats. For the development of the research, 12 Wistar rats will be used, from the Central Biotério of the Federal University of Sao Carlos (UFSCar), which will remain grouped in individual plastic cages, with free access to water and feed. After the acclimation period, the rats will be divided into 2 groups: Control Group - C (n = 6) and Osteoporosis Group - OS (n = 6). The bilateral ovariectomy procedure will be performed in only 6 rats when they complete approximately 12 weeks of life. The DXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) of Hologic (High Density Bone Densitometry System - Discovery A-Bedford, MA, USA) will be used for the evaluation of body composition, lean mass, fat mass, fat percentage, bone mineral density and bone mineral composition. To assess dietary efficacy, food intake control and body weight gain will be measured by a calculation of body mass evolution. The 1st Evaluation will occur on the 1st day of the experimental period (12th week of life of the rats). The animals will be evaluated periodically every month for a total of 6 months. After the collection will be done statistical processing of the data. (AU)
