Abstract

Climate change has caused many challenges to humanity. In Brazil, in particular in agriculture, periods of prolonged drought have caused considerable losses in production and consequently a price increase to the final consumer. An alternative to this adversity in agricultural production is irrigation, however it can be very costly, cause conflicts and consume little existing water resources. Therefore, water must be used with wisdom, that is, only when necessary. To meet this demand, this PhD project proposes the remote sensing of soil moisture on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for irrigated agriculture. The semiquantitative analysis will be performed by software, which will be related radiated heat with soil moisture and allowing metered irrigation efficiently to the site. This prototype will be developed during this project where we will build the UAV's physical structure as well as its source of energy; flight electronic circuits based on embedded systems and finally the software for image analysis and control of irrigation. The mechanical structure is made of composite resin and carbon, its energy power supply will be a supercapacitor bank linked to the fuselage and images are captured by camera for image acquisition in the infrared. At the end, after the construction of the prototype we will do the tests in partnership with EMBRAPA comparing the results with the results measured manually.
