Characterization of multifunctional titanium surfaces obtained by means of anodizing

Abstract

Since the first half of the 20th century, advances in the manufacture and synthesis of biomaterials, associated with increasingly accurate surgical techniques, have provided significant growth in the use of biomaterials in the form of implants and medical devices. In order to improve the treatment with the use of implants, optimizing the osseointegration, new alloys and new surface treatments have been researched. The objective of this study will be evaluate the surface properties of the Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta (TNZT), comparing it with Ti-6Al-4V (TAV) before and after surface treatment with Fluoride ions (F), deposited or not with magnesium (Mg). Disks (2mmxØ8mm) will be divided into two groups: TAV and TNZT, and subdivided based on the performance (A +) or not (A-, control) of the surface treatment, which consists of the use of the electrochemical anodization technique with hydrofluoric acid, deposited or not with magnesium. This technique of surface functionalization is used to modify the titanium oxide layer for a better osseointegration. The surface properties evaluated will be surface morphology and chemical composition in scanning electron microscopy (SEM / EDS), and surface roughness, which will be evaluated in a rugosimeter. For the interpretation of the results will be applied statistical test according to the type of distribution and level of significance of 5%. (AU)
