Abstract

Today, the implantology concentrates in studies that target and enable the more rapid osseointegration of surgical implants. The aim of this study will be to compare the bone neoformations into porous surface samples, made of different titanium (Ti) alloys. Also, we will correlate the structural properties of the different titanium alloys with the bone neoformations obtained in the porous samples. By means of powder metallurgy, 75 samples exhibiting dense core integrated to the porous surface, will be made and divided into five groups: a) group 1: control - commercially pure titanium; b) group 2: Ti-6Al-4V alloy (titanium-aluminium-vanadium); c) group 3: Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy (titanium-niobium-zirconium); d) group 4: Ti-35Nb alloy (niobium); e) group 5: Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta alloy (titanium-niobium-zirconium-tantalum). Five samples of each group will be submitted to chemical, morphological and mechanical characterization. In this study fifteen rabbits will be used to evaluate and to compare the bone neoformation obtained in the porous surface samples by means of histological and histomorphometric analyses and also by the use of fluorescent markers. Each rabbit will receive one sample of each group and the G1, G2, G3 samples will be inserted into the right tibiae and the G4, G5 samples in the left tibiae. Five rabbits, randomly selected, will be euthanized 2, 4 and 8 weeks after the surgery. The data will be evaluated by the ANOVA statistical test and if necessary a Tukey multiple comparison test of Tukey will be used(p <0.05).
