Abstract

Blindness is characterized by a field of vision up to ten degrees, which covers onlyperception of light, or its total absence. It can be classified as congenital, since birth oracquired resulting from some involvement during life. In this sense, the loss of visionaffects directly the relationship of individuals with the places that they inhabit, above all,because vision is not a simple record of light stimuli, but a selective and creative process inrelation to the environment. It is one of the main meanings and the loss of it directly affectsthe process of how reality is known and constructed. This makes people with blindness findother ways, be it through touch, taste, smell or addition to conceive of geographical space.This brings us back to essentially geographic studies, since they allow us to deepen theunderstanding of life, and its construction of subjects as being-in-the-world and the sense ofpalce. Therefore, to carry out this research we will deepen in human geography studies withemphasis on geography of health, through the qualitative approach with semi-structuredscript interview and participant observation in Presidente Prudente-SP.
