Ethanol has been adopted in Brazil as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, but efforts are still needed to reduce the impacts of sugarcane activity on aquatic ecosystems. An important stressor to be considered in the evaluation of the environmental impact of this activity is the use of pesticides in sugarcane cultivation and its adverse effects on the aquatic community. The thematic project FAPESP 2015/187903 will carry out field studies, in a situation that represents the real conditions of cane cultivation in the state of São Paulo. Experimental fields (plots) will be built within the farms and various assessments will be conducted including collection of water for chemical analyzes, testing with organisms of different trophic levels and assessments of aquatic communities. The objective of this project is to verify the applicability of the test with Zebrafish embryos in the integrated evaluation of water quality from different plots representing different conditions of management and use of pesticides.
