Abstract

The ways of accessing audiovisual content is changing rapidly in recent years. Two of the most significant changes are the ability to watch content on mobile devices and the advent of streaming: digital distribution of content without file transfer to another device (opposed to download). Since changing the way in which such content is accessed is also related to other practices that surround consumption, the focus of this research project is to map the practices and preferences of audiovisual content consumption among UNICAMP students, searching in this mapping see if there are patterns among three factors: 1. The socioeconomic profile of the students; 2. Their consumption of audiovisual and 3. The relation of this consumption with other cultural practices and preferences. For that, we will use Pierre Bourdieu's work as the main theoretical-methodological reference, especially his observations on cultural tastes and practices as factors of social distinction and on the homology between social space and lifestyle.
