Abstract

Proanthocyanidin is an agent currently studied because of its properties, which include, among others, remineralization, reduction of demineralization and biomodification of dentin. Thus, it may be a new alternative to prevent erosion in enamel and / or potentiate natural protective factors, such as the acquired pellicle. Therefore, the objective of this study will be to evaluate the effect of Proanthocyanidin on enamel pellicle in an extended erosive challenge. This double blind and crossover study will consist of 3 phases during 5 days each. The acquired pellicle will be formed in situ by the use of intraoral palatal device by three volunteers for 2 hours. The enamel blocks of each study group (n = 21) will be treated according to the groups: G1- 6.5% Proanthocyanidin Gel + acquired pellicle formed in situ; G2- only 6.5% Proanthocyanidin Gel; G3- only acquired pellicle formed in situ. The gels will be applied for 1 minute. Each intraoral device will be immersed in citric acid 0.5% (pH 2.5), 3x / day, for 2 minutes for 5 days and receive application of the gel 2x / day. The profilometry will be the variable used to quantify enamel loss. If they pass the tests of normality and homogeneity, the data will be submitted to the ANOVA.
