Evaluation of the properties of a modified adhesive system with bioactive glass particles

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the incorporation of bioactive glass particles(SCHOTT Bioactive Glass) in different concentrations in an experimental total acid etching adhesive system. The degree of conversion, the bond strength of the adhesive interface and the release of calcium will be evaluated, after which the antibacterial activity and the enzymatic activity will be evaluated by in situzymography, besides the analysis by means of the stereomicroscope, Transmission Microscopy and Electron Microscope of Scanning (SEM). Fifty human molars with the occlusal surface frazzled will be used until the exposure of dentin is approximately 6 mm in diameter and 4 mm in height, obtained from healthy human molars. The specimens will be divided into four groups: FL-Bond II Commercial Adhesive (Shofu, Inc.), Single Bond 2 Commercial Adhesive (3M-ESPE), Single Bond Commercial Adhesive 2 incorporating 1% bioactive particles, Experimental Adhesive and Experimental adhesive with the incorporation of 1% of bioactive particles (n = 10). After acid etching and photo polymerization of the adhesive, 3increments of 1.5 mm thickness of Filtek Z350 XT composite resin (3M-ESPE) will beaded to all specimens. The specimens will then be submitted to the conversion, micro traction and calcium ion release tests. Subsequently, the antibacterial activity of the specimens will be evaluated and will be observed by laser scanning confocal microscopy (MCVL), using the in situ zoography technique to evaluate the enzymatic activity, as well as the demeanor of the adhesive interface and the fracture pattern by means of stereomicroscope, Transmission Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The data will initially be submitted to the normality test and then will be submitted to three-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey's test for analysis of multiple comparisons, with a significance level of 0.05.
