Abstract

Sporotrichosis and pythiosis are two diseases of great importance in Veterinary Medicine, which present in the form of cutaneous / subcutaneous lesions, mainly. Among the ways of transmission, the traumatic implantation of the fungus Sporothrix spp. in the subcutaneous tissue of humans and animals stands out as the main, resulting from traumas with plants or through scratches of domestic cats. As for pythosis, the fungus-like Pythium insidiosum enters the skin through lesions or through the host's own hair follicles, with environmental zoospores being the infective form of the pathogen. The prevalence of sporotrichosis is higher in regions of tropical and temperate climates, as well as pythosis, the latter being also prevalent in subtropical regions. In both diseases, there is no predisposition for sex, age or race. In Brazil, several outbreaks of sporotrichosis have been reported in recent years, denoting the endemic country. In relation to pythosis, its occurrence is larger swamp areas, such as the Pantanal of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul states, although cases are also reported in other states and regions, which represents a notable problem for equine breeding. Due to the relevance of both diseases and the difficulty of treatment, it is intended to evaluate the ozonized sunflower oil as a future therapeutic possibility, once its fungicidal activity is known and, above all, it has excellent results in wound healing.
