Abstract

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii has been studied and used for accumulation of recombinant proteins. There are several therapeutic proteins of national interest that can be produced on this low cost microalgae platform. Filgrastime is a biological medicine that resembles the natural G-CSF (Granulocytic Colony-Stimulating Factor) of the human organism, acting to reduce the chances of infection in people during treatment of certain cancers, who have had bone marrow transplant or have chronic neutropenia, as it contributes to granulocyte proliferation and differentiation. In order to verify the possibility of using Chlamydomonas reinhardtii microalgae for filgrastime expression, microalgae chloroplasts will be genetically transformed by the biobalistic technique. The expression, accumulation and analysis of the molecule will be evaluated by PCR techniques, western blotting. (AU)
