Abstract

Brazil has been experiencing a moment of extreme attention in public health and agriculture. Cases of dengue, chikungunya and zika have increased vertiginously year after year, causing concern in the public health authorities and society. In addition, recently, the Brazilian government has released the use of some pesticides with toxicity relevant to living things and the environment. The search for solutions to overcome these problems has found some biotechnological alternatives, such as biosurfactants, considered ecologically correct products with potential larvicide. The present work aims to complement the studies of the project FAPESP 2016/14852-7, which uses the sophorolipid biosurfactants produced by Scheffersomyces stipitis in sugarcane bagasse hemicellulosic hydrolysate as larvicides against Aedes aegypti. Preliminary results have shown that the use of these biosurfactants may also be effective against some pests of agricultural interest. Thus, the present proposal aims to evaluate the interaction of sophorolipid biosurfactant with artificial membranes, helping to understand the larvicidal effect of these biomolecules and the further development of sustainable biotechnological products.
