The rehabilitation of the anterior region with dental implants has emerged as a challenging scenario due to the current high esthetic-functional demand. In this context, yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (Y-TZP) abutments have been widely indicated in order to overcome the esthetic disadvantages inherent to metal components. There is still no consensus in the literature regarding the mechanical performance of the Y-TZP abutments relative to titanium. In addition, the direct contact of this material with the oral environment has raised more susceptibility to low-temperature degradation (DBT). Thus, the present study aims to investigate the influence of artificial aging, autoclave and pressurized hydrothermal reactor, on the microstructure and crystalline content, as well as on the reliability and failure mode of Y-TZP-based abutment. Hence, the microstructure and the crystalline content of the Y-TZP abutments will be determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. In sequence, the reliability of Y-TZP abutment will be calculated by analyzing the life data of specimens submitted to the step-stress accelerated-life fatigue test. The qualitative fractographic analysis will be performed in a stereomicroscope with polarized light and SEM. All evaluations above described will be performed on Y-TZP abutments submitted to autoclave and pressurized hydrothermal reactor aging at 134ºC, 2.2 bars for 20 hours to simulate DBT, as well as, to compare the results of the different artificial aging methodologies.
