Abstract

Bio-inspired metaheuristics algorithms have been gaining popularity in the last decades, partly due to the fact that they are able to find global optimal solutions to nonlinear optimization problems. In particular, several studies related to power system planning and operation are modeled as this kind of problem. The firefly algorithm is a very efficient technique for solving optimization problems, being simple and its implementation is straightforward. In this work, the study and utilization of the firefly algorithm. The study consists of the full understanding of the algorithm and its utilization in solving benchmark mathematical problems. Then, the algorithm will be tested and validated for problems related to the power system area. In particular, in this research work the generation optimal dispatch will be tackled. (AU)
