Analysis of functional mobility in migraine subjects with and without kinesiophobia

Abstract

Migraine is a primary headache with high socioeconomic impact and is composed of disabling symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, phonophobia, photophobia and osmophobia. Migraner individuals are known to have balance deficits and poor mobility during the gait. In addition, half of the migraner population may be overly afraid of movement and physical activity, it is, they may have kinesiophobia. Given the evidence that kinesiophobia is responsible for the impairment in the performance of functional activities and also for being a frequent symptom in patients with migraine, our study aims to analyze the relationship betweenkinesiophobia and gait balance and mobility of patients with migraine. This study will feature volunteers diagnosed with migraine by experienced neurologists in accordance with the International Classification of Headache. Volunteers reporting at least three days of pain per month in the last three months will be recruited. Participants will answer the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) and will perform the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test to assess functional mobility during gait. The volunteers will be divided according to the Tampa scale classification into 2 groups: migraine with kinesiophobia and migraine without kinesiophobia. Demographic data, clinical characteristics of migraine and time to perform TUG will be compared between these two groups by Student's t test for independent samples. The results of this study are expected to favor the understanding of aspects related to functional mobility deficits presented by migraine patients, contributing to the elaboration of evaluation and treatment involving the comorbidities associated with migraine.
