The influence of school council participation on the psyche's development of elementary students

Abstract

School councils, according to The Student's Council Brazillian Law number 7.398 from november 4, 1985, are autonomous entities which represent student's interests and can have various emphasis such as: educational, cultural, civic, sporty and social. The literature in the area indicates that student's councils are spaces of collective teaching and learning that promotes activities that aim for improvements in several areas of the school's environment. The activities in the student council include actions that promote discussions about democratic education model and concepts beyond the regular curriculum. Thus, students who participate to School Councils are supposed to have a better opportunity of scholar and higher psychic functions development, apart from strengthening the their bond with the school. This project aims to verify the development of the children in the school council psiquism manifested in their speech and writing. Fourteen children from eight to eleven years old whose parents agreed and signed a consent form will participate. Data will be collected through three instruments: a) filming of the school council's meetings; b) semi-structured interviews with the students and their teachers; and c) observations of the classes. To answer the study questions, the data obtained will be grouped and compared for further analysis. Their speech and writing will be evaluated.
