Abstract

The present research proposal is based on the application of the geomorphological approach (landform characterization, analysis of the landscape superficial structure and morphodynamics), emphasizing discussions about genesis and spatio-temporal evolution of the river terraces. The research seeks to understand the dynamics of surface coverings ( source material of the soil) considering the characterization of the surface structure of the landscape to recover the temporal and genetic gaps related to the evolution of the terraces and superficial coverings associated with them. In this context, the methodological resource adopted as the driver of this proposal is based on the systemic method, seeking to integrate results obtained by means of absolute dating, resulting from the application of the Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) method and from the morpheestratigraphic analysis of the materials involved . Thus, this research seeks to deepen the understanding of the spatialisation of river terrain levels and lateral and vertical dynamics of the fluvial channel along the middle course of Rio Grande (BA). Thus, through the applied methodology, it will be possible to verify depositional sequences, correlating to Holocene climatic pulsations occurring in hot and dry tropical conditions in western Bahia . In this sense, it will be possible to identify synchronic and diachronic elements in the genesis of the forms studied, and to analyze the particularities of the regional/local environmental dynamics acting at different times.
