Abstract

The central theme of this research is the analysis of socio-spatial fragmentation, a polysemic process that must, therefore, be compared to the specific bibliography and whose occurrence is taken as a hypothesis to be investigated in the reading that we propose here from the metropolitan peripheries. We understand that the City is a manifestation, a product and a mean of countless transformations over time, with the possibility of observing different manifestations expressed in its forms, triggered by processes that will be addressed in this investigation. From the reading on the metropolitan peripheries, specifically in the city of São Paulo - SP, we will analyze an area of study corresponding to the district of São Mateus, located in the East Zone of the Capital of São Paulo, taking as a guiding axis of the research: a) the assessment of socio-spatial differentiation; b) social inequalities; c) considering the urban mobility. This will be done from the study of predetermined social subjects, considering their urban experiences. Such a methodological framework will allow us to evaluate whether the processes listed above, combined and read by the subjects' experiences, notably urban mobility, allow us to contribute to the identification of the occurrence of socio-spatial fragmentation.
