Abstract

To examine the effect of the history of adversities in maternal childhood on the mother's parenting practices, evaluated before and after a universal preventive intervention program for intrafamily violence against children (ACT - Raising Safe Kids Parenting Program), moderated by temperament and the maternal parenting sense of competence. Secondary objectives: Examine (a) the effect of the history of adversity in maternal childhood, as well as the ACT intervention, on children's behavior problems; (b) the prevalence of adversities's types. Sample: 80 mothers with children aged 2-6 years. Data collection: It will comprise 3 phases: pre-intervention assessment, intervention with the ACT program and post-intervention assessment (10 sessions). In the pre-intervention, ACT Questionnaires and Parenting and Family Adjustment Scale (PAFAS) will be applied to assess parenting practices, the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale (PSOC), to assess the parenting sense of competence, and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire ( SDQ), to assess children's behavior. The Characterization Form and the Brazilian Economic Classification Criterion will be applied. In the post-intervention, the ACT, PAFAS, PSOC and SDQ questionnaires will be reapplied. Additionally, the history of adversities in maternal childhood (ACE-The Adverse Childhood Experiences), temperament (ATQ-Adult Temperament Questionnaire) and indicators of depression (PHQ-9 - Pacient Health Questionnaire) of mothers will be evaluated. Data analysis: The sample will be divided into two groups differentiated by the presence or absence of adversities in maternal childhood (ACE + [positive] vs. ACE- [negative]). Descriptive statistics and intra-group and group comparisons will be performed. Linear regression analysis with interactive effects will be done and the moderating effect of the maternal temperament and the parenting sense of competence will be examined. The children's sex and age, maternal depression and socioeconomic level will be controlled in the analysis (SPSS 23.0; pd0.05; effect-size). (AU)
