Areas of occurrence of COVID-19 and tuberculosis morbidity in a techonological center municipality of São Paulo State

Abstract

COVID-19 brought with it great changes in society, becoming a worldwide public health emergency. In just a few months the pandemic reached dimensions hitherto unseen in the contemporary world, presenting serious challenges for health authorities, among them the association of COVID-19 with other diseases, intensifying the pre-existing problems such as in the case of Tuberculosis. The studies that aim to comprehend the areas of vulnerability of these diseases are of great importance and can assist in the planning of health actions. Objective: To identify the existence of spatial clusters of COVID-19 and to verify whether they follow the same distribution patterns as the spatial clusters of tuberculosis cases in a technological center municipality in the state of São Paulo. Methods: This is a descriptive, ecological study in which the 289 urban census sectors in São Carlos will be considered. The population will be composed of all cases of COVID-19 registered in the period from January 2020 until the official date of data collection and cases of tuberculosis registered from January2019 to the official date of data collection. Descriptive analysis, the incidence rate of each disease and the georeferencing of the cases will be performed, then scanning statistics will be applied to identify the statistically significant clusters with p bigger than 0,05. Choropleth maps will beconstructed to present the results graphically. The study will be submitted to the ResearchEthics Committee of the Federal University of São Carlos. (AU)
