Abstract

In recent years the importance of studying the communities of microorganisms present in the human intestine has been widely elucidated. These microbial communities not only contribute to the hosts local defense against infections, but theyalso modulate immune system responses in different sites and tissues. The human microbiome is dynamic, and under conditions that compromise the host defense barrier, some species of these microorganisms can invade tissues and cause viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Our study aims to investigate the impact of gene expression and the host microbiome on the immunological response during several infectious diseases. Through public RNA-seq data from human blood samples, we intend to perform a multi-integrative approach through systems biology to elucidate how the interaction of host microbiome and host immunological system can impact the clinical outcome of patients affected by infectious diseases.
