Abstract

Our research project is based on the hypothesis that the contemporary city in Brazil has been produced from a fragmentary socio-spatial logic. This logic could be apprehended from urban forms, their representations and spatial practices of city dwellers, which may indicate a given type of urban sociability to be dialectically compared to socio-spatial fragmentation. Such urban sociability, resulting from the relationships between the subjects and the subjects with the City, will be apprehended from school-age youth. Our first goal is to assess whether the practices and representations indicate the occurrence of socio-spatial fragmentation that would be expressed by the understanding that the subjects surveyed have a sociability limited by their spatial condition and the possibilities, or not, of mobility and appropriation of the City. Our second goal is that the results from the first can become a material to be used in teaching Geography and in education, in a broad sense, as a liberating practice. Semi-structured interviews, mind maps, affective maps and analysis of the paths of the subjects chosen for the research will be used. (AU)
