Abstract

Advances in computational tools associated with techniques from the field of artificial intelligence have led to new and important possibilities in the way computers can inform and actively interact with the design process. This proposal for an internship abroad has the goal to expand and broaden the research on computational simulation with parametric models and generative systems using multi-objective optimization in the design of buildings and urban blocks aiming at the construction of more sustainable cities. Specific aims are to study and incorporate generative performative systems into parametric modeling, and develop a deeper knowledge about form-based codes for more sustainable cities and the possibility of its implementation with parametric models. It is important the participation of a specialist on parametric and generative systems and multi-objective optimization, thus, Prof. Luisa Caldas, from the University of California, Berkeley, was chosen as the supervisor of this research internship. At the end of the research internship, it is expected to develop a multi-criteria optimization application exercise in urban blocks along with a preliminary study of developing a form-based code implementing the optimized parameters. This research proposal is related to an ongoing study in Brazil with the English translated title of: "Parametric and associative models for the design of sustainable urban blocks" (FAPESP 2020/10233-6).
