Abstract

This research debates about Georges Demenÿ's work and his influence on Brazilian studies on Physical Education. On Education and Physical Education historiographic work, it's possible to identify that the European gymnastic methods and what systematizes them have been becoming important subjects of study by researchers concerned about the Physical Education Establishment process in Brazil. Thus, this research aims at mapping and analyzing the reception, effect and appropriation of scientific knowledge created on Physical Education by Georges Demenÿ in Brazil between 1890 and 1949. Its main sources are his work, scientific and variety journals, books and institutional sources from Physical Education programs. Demenÿ is presented as one of the most renown personalities in the history of Physical Education in France, very much due to the addition of more accurate scientific systematization regarding physical activity, his role in schooling project and in preservation of health. This work is intended, thus, to contribute to a deeper comprehension on how his ideas have impacted Brazilian intellectuals in the process of establishing the study area on the analyzed period. (AU)
