Abstract

The purpose of this project is to investigate the versions of masculinities performed by young boys during their involvement in an informal science learning project. This project is inspired by the definition of masculinities proposed by Raewyn Connell and studies in intersectionality to map the different manifestations of masculinities in an environment rich in scientific practices and objects. Central in this project is the exploration of how these gender expressions interact with other social division categories in the production of masculinities more or less aligned and celebrated in the science education field. To solve these questions, we propose to use a critical ethnographic approach with multiple qualitative methods. The main target public of this project are children between 06-11 years old from minorities groups that will be invited to take part in an out-of-school learning activitity organized by the research team of Prof. Dr. Lucy Avraamiodu, at the University of Groningen. We hope to contribute to the literature on gender studies in science education by mapping the relations between masculinity and science education. (AU)
