Abstract

Due to the high prevalence of erosive tooth wear, the search for alternative therapies has become constant and has recently included the investigation of the protective potential of natural agents such as palm oil and vitamin E. The aim of this project will be to evaluate the in situ effect of these natural agents on enamel subjected to erosion and erosion+abrasion. 128 enamel blocks will be randomized and divided into the following study groups (n=32): G1- Elmex Erosion protection (positive control), G2- Deionized water (negative control), G3- 100% palm oil and G4- 100% oily Vitamin E. After treatment with the solutions for 30 seconds, the enamel blocks will be subjected to erosive (0.3% citric acid, 5 min) and/or erosive + abrasive (0.3% citric acid, 5 min + brushing for 15s) cycling, 4 times a day for 5 days. The response variable will be enamel wear by contact profilometry. The statistical analysis will be carried out using the 5% significance level.
