Abstract

Power electronic inverters (PEIs) play a key role on the current energy transition sought worldwide, particularly due to their capability to allow the interconnection of renewable energy sourcer into electrical grids. By means of the PEIs' operational flexibilities, not only power conversion from renewable sources is possible, but intelligent applications can be also provided by the complimentary offering grid support and power quality functionalities. Moreover, a new research trend lies on the real-time adjusment of the PEIs' operationalities, which improves even more their applicabilities, taking into consideration that a signficant amount of energy-related information can be accessed through the energy internet (EI). Therefore, this project aims at studying the principles of connecting PEIs to the EI, evaluating how microprocessor-based electronic boards can be integrated to exchange data. In particular, the project intends to evalute how serial communication approaches can be used to connect the electronic board of a real PEI with a microprocessor board connected to the EI. Thus, the real-time management of the PEI is expected to be achieved, allowing to obtain data online on the internet to optimize the offering of operational funcionalities.
